Joan - A Mother's Memoir
by Titia Bozuwa

This notable book, now in its second printing, is worthy of your attention. Joan - A Mother's Memoir has an uplifting message despite its sad underlying fact. It is a story about a brave, young woman who "lived with joy and died with hope" as the ancient philosopher Cicero wrote in 42 BC.

For such a small book, it is filled with considerable grace. It realisticallly portrays resilience and love through the ups and downs of a typical mother-daughter relationship and the unfailing warmth and support of their small village. But ultimately, this book is about acceptance.

The profits of the first printing benefited the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The profits derived from the sale of the second printing will be donated to the New Hampshire based not-for-profit organization, Access to Ideas, which works to open small libraries in rural villages throughout the former Soviet Union. Each copy sold will multiply into many hardbound Russian books to be put in the hands of grateful children. Click here to read an excerpt from the book.
